Holiday Shopping on a Budget

Although most people enjoy giving during the Holiday season, it’s also a fact that Holiday shopping can be a financial burden for many, especially during this economy.  Moreover, although Holiday sales are predicted to do well this year, the fact that a lot of money will be spent is especially true for large families or groups of friends who regularly exchange gifts.  Holiday shopping can also be a financial problem for those who feel compelled to purchase expensive gifts for each person on their list.  However, there are ways to deal with this situation that occurs during the Holiday season. 

One way to deal with a potential financial burden is to set a Holiday budget; another way is to shop year round instead of all at once.  This can also help you to avoid the large crowds on Black Friday.  What I would like to do here is discuss the importance of setting a budget for Holiday shopping as well as how shopping throughout the year can be less of a financial burden. 

Those concerned over how much money will be spent on Holiday shopping should set a budget before starting.  To do this, create a list of all the people you intend to buy for this Holiday season.  This list should include close friends and family members you usually purchase gifts for as well as any co-workers, your mail carrier, or your children’s teachers for which you may purchase gifts.  You may also wish to budget for gifts donated to toy drives if you typically contribute during these events.

Once you have your list of gift recipients there are a couple of ways to go about establishing a budget.  The simplest way is to decide how much you plan to spend altogether and divide this amount by the number of gift recipients on your list.  This will result in a budget in which you plan to spend the same amount for each person on your list.  This may be appropriate if you plan on purchasing similar gifts for each person on your list, but it may not work if you wish to purchase something really special for a few of your closest friends or relatives.

Another strategy for establishing a budget is to determine how much you would like to spend and divide the individuals into different categories.  Some of the categories you might want to include are close friends and relatives, business associates, acquaintances, and for charity drives.  Once you have your list categorized you can determine how much you would like to spend on each category.  For example you might decide to spend 50% of your total budget on close friends and relatives, 25% on business associates, 15% on acquaintances, and the remaining 10% on gifts for charity drives.  Then, you can use these numbers to determine the total amount you will spend on each category and divide that number by the total number of people in each category to determine a dollar amount for each person on your list.

A final strategy for establishing a budget is to determine how much you plan to spend on certain on your list.  This will most likely include your closest relatives.  Once you set dollar amounts for your closest relatives, you could divide the remaining amount of money in your budget.  This can either be done arbitrarily by dividing the remaining amount by the remaining people on your list, or you can go through your list selecting a dollar amount for each person until you reach your budget.  At this time if there are any remaining people on your list you will have to either reevaluate the dollar amounts you have chosen or consider eliminating some people from your list.

What do we have today…9.2% "official" unemployment, 18% effective unemployment, the worst housing crash in modern history with non-stop record foreclosure rates, and record high gas and food prices. 
These headlines have not changed for the last 3 years.
Most sane people would agree that this is not the time for major product launches.
Yet, Apple still has people lining up around the block and camping out overnight just to purchase an iPhone 4S on the FIRST (1st) day the product launches. 
Now I know there are many out there that will simply discount this event and write it off to the genius of Steve Jobs, and granted, not only does Steve Jobs have the "formula" for success, he seemingly wrote the formula.
Fair enough. It’s unlikely neither you nor I will ever hit Steve Jobs heights, but this doesn't mean we can't be successful in our own right.
We simply need to follow our own "formula" for success, just like Steve follows his formula for success.

And yes, it is a "formula".

All you have to do is go back and study all the major Apple product launches, which I have done, and you will see that it's always been the same build up, the same release, and the same result –raving success and tremendous sales.

So the lesson to be learned is that you need to follow a "formula" so you can ignore the markets. It doesn't matter what the economy is doing, or what government is doing, or what your neighbor is doing; it's always about what you're doing and how you're doing it.
I want you to look at this "formula" and start using it today.

P.S. You do have a choice here; you can either “hunker down” while trying to weather the storm, or you can go sell umbrellas. I think you know who comes out of the storm in better shape.

Hurricane Preparation the Best Possible Way

With the landfall of Hurricane Irene on the Atlantic coast, it is important to know the best possible way to prepare for such a devastation because the next storm may make landfall where you are.

The coastline of the United States, especially the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, is regularly battered by hurricanes, about five on average, with the most devastation ones occurring approximately every 3 years.  These storms bring about a lot of heavy wind, with gusts as much as a hundred miles per hour along with water surges reaching as high as twenty feet.      

These cyclones are extremely dangerous; therefore, it is important to prepare for their onslaught, especially during Hurricane Season, which is from June 1 to November 30.  Here are some tips to help you prepare for the worst possible scenario when hurricanes come:

Be Aware and Beware

Know and understand that each hurricane is different, so preparing for the worst possible is the best option since it makes you prepared and pro-active. 

Make a List and Check it Twice

List all outside items and determine which ones you think should be brought inside when a hurricane hits.  This includes outdoor tools and equipment and lawn furniture. 

Trim the Landscaping

Try to keep shrubbery and trees trimmed.  This prevents unnecessary entanglements, including of electric wires, caused by tree branches or the like.

Clear and Drain

Ensure that the gutters and drains are appropriately cleared.  This helps prevent further flooding, especially during long periods of heavy rainfall that usually accompanies strong hurricanes.

Use Shutters Specifically Designed for Hurricanes

Using permanent door and window shutters is much safer than simply taping all the glass as this does not prevent the glass breaking.  Plywood is also good for protecting windows. 

Plan for an Evacuation

Develop an evacuation plan.  You can find the best source of information from your local emergency management office or the Red Cross.  They may be able to provide you with the route for evacuation as well as nearby shelters. 

Stay tuned to local radio and television stations as they also have vital information regarding evacuations.  If there is a mandatory evacuation, do comply as doing so will make it easier for the Red Cross and Emergency Management personnel to do their job.

Prepare Blankets

Have sleeping bags and blankets ready in case you need to rush to a shelter. 

Think About Your Pets Too

Know in advance how to take care of your pets.  Many pets were abandoned during Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav.

Gather Necessary Emergency Supplies   

Prepare supplies beforehand.  Supplies should include flashlights, batteries, a radio, water and food, first aid kits, and a can opener. 

Also, turn your refrigerator temperature to the coldest setting.  This is for when the power goes off as the cool air of your refrigerator will stay longer, thereby preserving your food a lot longer.

Elevate your Home and Furniture

It is also a good idea to elevate your house, especially if you live in an area prone to hurricanes and flood.  This will help prevent potential expensive damage to your home and possessions.  Billions of dollars in damage was caused to homes during Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, and not all claims have been paid for this.

All in all, preparing for the worst is the best course of action.  It could save you precious time, energy, and money as well as possibly saving your life as well as that of your loved ones.

Aside from losing quality sleep each night, there are more serious problems that people who are suffering from sleep apnea face each time they go to sleep.  Because you cannot breathe easily and regularly as you are sleeping, you lack the necessary oxygen that your body must to be supplied with at all times.  This can lead to more serious health problems such as high blood pressure and heart disorder.  If you already have problems with high blood pressure and anything with regarding your heart, this sleep disorder makes matters worse and may lead to even more difficult problems if you do not act as soon as possible.

Effective Sleep Apnea Treatments

Devices.  Breathing and oral devices are used in treating different severities of sleep apnea.  Examples are continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) and mouthpiece.  Recommended for people with moderate and severe apnea, CPAP is a mask-like device connected to a machine.  CPAP is worn over the nose while sleeping and delivers pressurized air to prevent the airway from narrowing.

Mouthpiece, on the other hand, is designed specifically by a dentist or orthodontist.  It is a custom-fit dental device that resembles the common athletic mouth guard.  It prevents sleep apnea by adjusting the lower jaw and tongue, thus keeping the airway open.  Other devices include bi-level positive air pressure (BiPAP) and adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV).

4. Surgery.  Surgery’s main purpose is to keep the airway wide and open, thereby allowing the free flowing of air.  Surgery is normally done on people with severe sleep apnea, but which surgical operation to perform is based on the cause.  There is surgery that removes excess tissue from the throat and soft palate that blocks the airway.  Other types of surgery, meanwhile, shrinks tissue in the mouth and throat.

In some types of surgery, enlarged tonsils and adenoids are removed while other types involve reconstruction of the lower jaw.  The types of surgery for treating sleep apnea is known to confer long-term and even permanent benefits, but since surgery can be sometimes risky, it is best to consider other sleep apnea treatments first before undergoing any surgery.

The success of sleep apnea treatments still lies on the person’s commitment since some mentioned treatments may be quite challenging to sustain.  Take, for instance, the lifestyle changes.  Expectedly, it won’t be as easy for some people to lose weight or kick alcohol as it is for others.

Have you heard the phrase, “what you appreciate, appreciates?” It means that the more you are thankful for something, the more things you will have to be thankful for. Kind of like when you praise your husband for taking out the trash, the more he will remember to do it.

The same is true with negative thoughts. The more you think about not wanting to be broke, the more it keeps you in a pattern of just getting by. They say the trick to getting money is having some. That’s a Catch 22 of sorts, but it’s true.

What you think about and focus on, you get more of. This is the Law of Attraction in its barest form.

So, here’s the thing: using the specific words “weight-loss” actually keeps you stuck in a pattern of maintaining, and even gaining, weight.

Anytime you are focusing on “weight”–whether it’s “weight” you have, or “weight” you want to lose—you are asking to keep it around and even adding some more to your collection.

The most powerful thing you can do for yourself if you would like to “lose weight” is to drop those two words from your vocabulary and never say or think them again.

Truly, it is ALL about focusing on what you want to GAIN and not what you want to LOSE.

So what should you focus on GAINING?

Here’s where I created a new word to express what you want to GAIN, and that’s BodyJoy, baby!

BodyJoy is a delicious state of being where your body, mind, and spirit are deeply connected.

Little kids are in BodyJoy very frequently. They practically dance everywhere they go and they take great pleasure in running up a hill, catching a cricket, or eating when they are hungry.

Being in BodyJoy is natural.

As adults, we usually separate our mind, body, and spirit. We read books to grow our minds, we go to church to fortify our spirits, we go to the gym to strengthen our bodies.

When you focus on getting into BodyJoy, you feel fantastic! You feel energized, young, peaceful, loving, passionate, focused, and expansive.

I have found that DANCE is the fastest and most powerful way to get into BodyJoy. It is like plugging yourself directly into an energizing electric outlet. And dancing just feels SO GOOD!

This is My Bad Habit "Secret"

Do you have this "bad habit"?

I drink 3 cups of coffee each and every morning:

2 - regular

1 - decaf

Do you know why I do this day in and day out?

Well, I'm not 100% sure, and I didn't even realize I was doing it until 1 day when it occurred to
me that I didn't even want the 3rd cup that day, yet I drank it anyhow.

That's just the way it is with habits. We do things without thinking about why we do them.

Habits like smoking can be destructive, and habits like going to work each day can be highly
beneficial, but even a seemingly "good habit" like this can keep you from opening your mind to reveal your true potential.

Some days you're not even sure why you're still working there, you may even hate your tyrannical boss, but you keep showing up anyhow.

You're not thinking.  You're simply doing the same thing you've been doing day after day after day.  It's a habit.

So imagine what happens when growing your business becomes a habit.

> You don't think it's hard

> You don't worry about failure

> You don't think at all

You simply do the same things today that you did yesterday to grow your business into something amazing.

It simply becomes your new habit!

This is an easy habit to start, and once you start it'll be almost impossible to stop.
